Posted on May 5, 2020July 13, 2020 By ninjatechnyc

WordPress comes bundled with jQuery and there are themes and plugins that call it. Ubuntu Project – The Stuck At Home Edition

So with all this coronavirus stay-the-heck-home lockdowns, being cooped up at home all day, I decided to come back to my blog…   I figured now would be a good time to do and document a nice project that I’ve been wanting to do for some time. I’d like to be able to run an…

Posted on April 14, 2020April 15, 2020 By ninjatechnyc

Since I’ve been stuck at home with everyone else because of this dang COVID19 crap, I figured I would get back into some blogging.  Came back here to WordPress, did an update, and got greeted by this horrendous post editor. All I wanted to do was post and add pictures, and it was giving me…

WordPress Permalinks Causing 404 Error

Posted on April 14, 2020April 17, 2020 By ninjatechnyc

This blog is a selfhosted WordPress instance. When I initially set it up, I had used the default settings of the permalinks section: After some time, I wanted the post urls to refer to the post title, so I selected “Post name” instead. That’s when all heck broke loose. When clicking on a post from…

Koken – API Error. The theme is not able to make contact with your Koken installation.

Posted on June 26, 2017June 26, 2017 By ninjatechnyc

I ran Koken as a photo gallery for my personal website under a Godaddy hosting.  Worked well.  But at some point I decided I needed my own “external” server for troubleshooting purposes, to help with my day-to-day System Admin job. Something outside of our corporate network so I can see if things are accessible from…

Posted on June 11, 2017June 11, 2017 By ninjatechnyc

Installed WordPress for a client, they wanted a particular theme. The theme has some sort of Server Health page which showed the Max_Input_Vars was set to 1000 and it was recommending to go higher. I searched hi and lo for  how to change it. All the websites I hit said add a php.ini with the…

Ridiculous – #AAPL, #VZ Fight Against New York’s ‘Right To Repair’ Law | Techdirt

Posted on May 23, 2017June 1, 2017 By ninjatechnyc

Update 6/1/17: Well score one for the little guy! Supreme Court rules in favor of Impression Products who sold refurbished Lexmark Ink. This is ridiculous. Again, mega companies trying to push out the small mom and pop fixit shops. I should be able to buy parts and fix my iPad or iPhone or my Android…

Send Emails At Regular Intervals

Posted on May 6, 2017September 2, 2019 By ninjatechnyc

I’m a network admin, and as such, maintain an Exchange server with a Barracuda spam filter. I needed something that could send an email to myself, from the outside, so that I can be sure my server is accepting emails and the spam filter is passing them through, and eventually get it on my iPhone….

Email Attachments Coming In As .Bin Files

Posted on December 22, 2016May 6, 2017 By ninjatechnyc

Problem: Had a user who was sending attachments (in this case they were MS Word documents with a .doc extension) through Outlook 2010. Some (not all) external recipients who were on Outlook Office 365 were receiving the attachments as .BIN files: Solution: On the Exchange server, for Remote Domains, tell it never to use RTF:

Posted on November 6, 2015September 2, 2019 By ninjatechnyc

Ran into a situation where I needed to read logs that had Unix time stamps. So I needed something that converted the time stamps to standard date/time format. I wrote up a small VB widget to do the job. Hopefully it can be useful for others. It’s a work in progress : ) You enter…
